The open road is calling...

But before you pack up and drive off into the sunset, there’s one important thing to check:

Is your car road trip ready?

At The Car Mentor, our mission is to empower your automotive journey from start to finish. Not only do we help you make confident car buying and selling decisions, we believe peace of mind starts with preparation—especially when the heat turns up and the miles stretch out. So let's get your car ready for summer travel.

We have made this simple checklist to make sure your vehicle is ready for wherever summer takes you.

1. Check Your Fluids

Summer driving means your engine is working harder. Take a few minutes to check:

  • Engine oil – clean, full, and not overdue for an oil change

  • Coolant/antifreeze – prevents overheating

  • Brake fluid

  • Transmission fluid

  • Windshield washer fluid

Pro Tip: Visit a trusted mechanic or oil change center if you’re unsure where to look.

2. Tires: Pressure & Tread = Safety

Nothing ruins a road trip faster than a blowout

  • Use a tire pressure gauge to check PSI

  • Look for worn tread or cracks

  • Don’t forget the spare tire

Most local tire shops offer free air checks and quick inspections.

3. Lights & Signals

Good visibility keeps you safe—day and night. Test headlights, turn signals, brake lights, and hazards. Clean off foggy or yellowed headlight covers.

Replace any burned-out bulbs

4. Wipers & Windshield Clarity

Don’t let a sudden downpour ruin your visibility. Replace cracked or squeaky wipers, and top off washer fluid. Check that wiper arms press firmly and evenly across the glass

5. Build an Emergency Kit

It’s better to have it and not need it, than the other way around.

Pack your trunk with:

  • Jumper cables

  • Flashlight and batteries

  • First aid kit

  • Water and light snacks

  • Phone charger

  • Tire inflator or sealant

You can grab a pre-made kit from any auto parts store or build your own.
